The Way and the Power
Tao Te Ching - Eight
The highest goodness is like water,
Water is apt to benefit all things but never strive with them for its own ends.
It abides in place people disdain; thus it has the closest resemblance with Tao.
The superior man behave following the example of water.
He stays at ease with lowness,
He is profound and still with his heart,
He bestows without aspiring for returns,
He speaks with sincerity and faith,
He governs in a clear and upright way,
He deals with affairs in a capable way,
He takes action in a timely way.
It is just because he does not strive that he keeps free from any faults.
